This fast and versatile 40 item scale has been developed to identify behaviours that may indicate severe emotional disturbance in children and adolescents.
In conjunction with other findings, it can be used to monitor and evaluate progress during education interventions or to determine whether a seriously emotionally disturbed child or adolescent should be placed in a special education program.
Two forms feature separate sets of items, which are age appropriate for children and adolescents. These are organised into 4 subscales, which address individual areas:
-
Interpersonal problems
-
Inappropriate behaviours and feelings
-
Depression
-
Physical symptoms and fears
With separate norms for males and females for both parent and teacher raters extensive validity and reliability data and pre-test/post-test score tables the Devereux Behaviour Rating Scale provides normative comparisons of behaviour, compares results across informants, assesses the individual in a variety of settings, provides information for treatment planning, and evaluates treatment effectiveness as a pre-post measure.
